About Us
I founded Mpaz Studio in 2022, not just as a fashion brand—but as a form of healing.
After graduating from FIDM in Los Angeles with a B.A. in Fashion Design, I was full of fresh knowledge and eager to experiment. I’ve always been a very active person—sports and movement have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. But that year, something unexpected happened. I was hit with a rare autoimmune response that completely changed my life. My body broke out in a severe, head-to-toe allergic reaction. I couldn’t sweat. My eyes became sensitive to light. I started staying indoors because it was too painful—and honestly, because I didn’t feel comfortable in my own skin anymore.
For six months, I lived mostly inside. During that time, sewing became more than a creative outlet—it became therapy. I began by remodeling my own clothes, using my hands to cope, to express, and to find peace. I started selling some pieces on Depop. Slowly, something began to grow. What began as a personal ritual started resonating with others.
As I continued to create, I began experimenting with new fabrics—and that’s when I found denim. I fell in love with its versatility, its history, and its resilience. It felt like the perfect metaphor for what I was going through. I began crafting pieces from upcycled denim, and soon after, our first official Mpaz Studio collection was born.
Strangely enough—or maybe not so strangely—around the time Mpaz began to come to life, my autoimmune condition began to fade. I believe creativity can heal, and this brand is proof of that.
Mpaz was born out of struggle, but it’s fueled by hope, experimentation, and a deep respect for the transformative power of fashion.
